Professor Simon Jackman

Chief Executive Officer, United States Studies Centre

 

Professor Simon Jackman commenced as Chief Executive Officer of the United States Studies Centre in April 2016.

Born and raised in Brisbane, he received his PhD in Political Science from the University of Rochester, and for most of his academic career was Professor of Political Science and Statistics at Stanford University.

A leading scholar of public opinion, election campaigns, political participation, and electoral systems, Jackman’s academic work spans both American and Australian politics. A methodological pioneer, Jackman has made important contributions to the rigorous measurement of democracy, the analysis of legislative roll call data, and improving on-line surveys of public opinion.

Jackman’s scientific leadership includes serving as a Principal Investigator of the American National Election Studies (the world’s longest-running and most authoritative survey of political behaviour and attitudes) and President of the Society for Political Methodology. He is a Fellow of the Society for Political Methodology, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia.
